A BMW 5 Series, a sophisticated dark-grey finish and graphics inspired by the energy of basketball. Take a closer look at the LBFILM custom project unveiled at APAxpo 2026.
A personal story told through a car
A custom wrap works best when it tells a story without needing to explain every line. This LBFILM BMW 5 Series project, presented at APAxpo 2026 in connection with basketball player Xu Jie, took inspiration from the movement and focus of the game.
The brief was not to cover the car in obvious sports symbols. Instead, the design explored how the quick changes in pace, direction and energy associated with basketball could become a visual language suited to the shape of a modern performance-oriented sedan.

Why the grey base matters
The BMW’s dark-grey exterior sets the tone. In exhibition lighting, the surface appears understated, with controlled reflections that emphasize the contours of the hood, side panels and roofline. Dark trim and wheel details support the overall look without pulling attention away from the body.
This kind of subdued foundation is particularly useful for custom graphics. It gives the artwork room to appear selectively, so the car feels cohesive from a distance and reveals more detail as you move closer.

Graphics that follow the vehicle
Look carefully at the hood: the illustrated marks and angular motion cues work with the panel’s lines rather than sitting on top as disconnected stickers. The side of the car continues the visual direction with darker tonal details. The outcome is less about showing a basketball and more about suggesting momentum.
Scale, placement and negative space are just as important as color. A small graphic positioned precisely can have more impact than a larger graphic placed without regard for the body shape. That design principle is visible throughout this project.

A closer look at the reveal
The appearance of the finished BMW at APAxpo gave visitors a chance to compare the overall silhouette with its smaller details. The LBFILM show plates, dark front fascia and hood artwork formed a recognizable presentation, while the crowd around the vehicle turned the unveiling into a shared experience.
The car illustrates how a personalized automotive-film project can connect someone’s interests with vehicle design without losing the original proportions and identity of the car. It is a reminder that customization does not have to be excessive to be distinctive.

Make your next wrap personal
Whether you prefer a subtle matte-inspired effect, a metallic-looking finish or a full custom graphic concept, start with a clear idea of the personality you want the car to express. Then choose colors and design elements that complement the vehicle itself.
